School Climate

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions from students about some of our school rules:

1. Why do we have agenda books and what is the purpose of getting them signed?

Agendas are an awesome way to keep organized and allows teachers, students, and parents to keep in contact with each other so that the student will have the most successful year possible.

2. Why do we have a dress code?

Schools are public places where lots of young people come together to learn. Clothes that promote alcohol, drugs or violence are not appropriate for young people. Clothing that allows others to see your undergarments or bare belly are also inappropriate. You will be asked to change, cover up or put on a shirt supplied by the office.

3. What is the policy on homework?

Homework is crucial to being successful in school, and must be completed for the date that it is due.

4. Why are hats not allowed to be worn in school?

It helps children recognize the change of mind set to an educational environment. Non-verbal communication, of which 75% of all communication is non-verbal, is improved through eye contact and facial expressions. Traditionally KNIGHTS remove their head gear when communicating with others.

5. Can I play tackle football or roughhouse at recess?

No. As a school we are responsible for everyone's safety. Tackle football and roughhousing increases the risk of physical injury.

6. Can students chew gum?

No, gum can easily become unsanitary as too often it gets stuck to desks, shoes or clothing, and the sound of someone chewing can be distracting to others.

7. Can we eat in the hallway? What about the gym?

No, not only is it dangerous to walk and eat but it makes a mess in the hallways which looks terrible when visitors come to the school. Absolutely NO food or drinks(other than water) are allowed in the gym, this helps protect it from damage.

8. Why can't I wear my outside shoes in the school?

Outside shoes get: muddy, wet, grassy, sandy, and even gummy! All of that will fall off as you walk from class to class. We want our school to look nice and clean for all of us and any visitors that come to our school.

9. Can we drink during class?

Yes, drinks are allowed if the homeroom teacher approves. Reusing water bottles for days at a time however is discouraged because they can breed bacteria!

10. What can I do during lunch recess?

You have a number of options: A) Go outside and play a game or hang out with friends B) If there is intramurals you may go to the gym C) Have your agenda signed for the computer lab D) Have your agenda signed for the library. Store workers eat in their own classroom, their teacher will put their name(s) on the board, which gives them an extra 10 minutes to eat lunch, and then they must go to one of the above places as well.

11. What do I do if I want to see the counsellor

Leave your name with the secretary in the office and she will make sure your request is kept confidential and that the counsellor is informed.

12. What happens if something of mine gets stolen or I lose it?

You go to the office and fill out a lost and found report. If the item is turned into the office you will be informed immediately. However; keep in mind, that the school is not responsible for any stolen/lost items.
