Leader in Me
Leader in Me is an innovative, school-wide program offered at Lilian Schick School. At its crux, it views every child as a leader. The program was formed from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Stephen Covey), and teaches students the 7 Habits of Happy Kids to instill responsibility, vision, integrity, accountability and teamwork.
The 7 Habits include:
- Be proactive
- Begin with the end in mind
- Put first things first
- Think win-win
- Seek first to understand, then to be understood
- Sharpen the saw
As a school, we continue to build towards lighthouse status. This year, we are working as part of a pilot project on wildly important goals. Students and staff are working collaboratively with Senior Consultant, John Flokstra to discover effective strategies in setting, monitoring, and achieving goals. This pilot project will culminate in a training video for middle schools, to be used across the continent. What a great experience for our staff and students.
Students also have the opportunity to serve in areas of strength as part of our leadership roles for students. Some examples of roles are greeters, MCs, servers, library leaders, sports leaders, morning announcements and many others. Each student has the opportunity to contribute to their school in a positive way, as a leader.
